Coordinate Plane Games for Kids (Grades 4–8)

Play Coordinate Command (Grades 4–6)

Coordinate plane games practice plotting and reading points, slope and transformations on a grid. They cover grades 4 to 8 and are free to play.

The coordinate plane connects numbers to pictures. It is the base for graphs, maps and algebra. These games ask kids to plot, aim and move on a grid, so each point has a clear meaning.

Common Questions

How do I teach the coordinate plane to my child?

Draw a grid with two number lines that cross at 0. Name the lines the x-axis and the y-axis. Teach one rule: go across first, then up or down. To plot (3, 2), walk 3 right and 2 up. Then add negatives: (−3, 2) is 3 left and 2 up.

What grade do kids learn the coordinate plane?

Graphing in the first quadrant is grade 5. All four quadrants are grade 6. Slope and linear graphs are grade 8. Transformations on the plane, such as reflections and rotations, are also grade 8.

What is a common coordinate mistake?

Kids often swap x and y. The point (2, 5) is not (5, 2). The first number is always the move across. The second is the move up or down. A good phrase is "walk before you climb". Plot both points to see that they land in different places.

Which coordinate game should my child start with?

For grades 4 to 6, try Coordinate Command. For grades 5 to 6, try Coordinate Quest, which plots on four quadrants. For grades 6 to 8, try Slope Flyer. For grade 8, try Slope Slide, which reads rise and run.

Are these coordinate plane games free?

Yes. All of the games are free. There are no ads, no in-app purchases and no sign-up. They run in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
