Integer & Negative Number Games for Kids (Grades 3–8)

Play Temp Trek (Grades 3–5)

Integer and negative number games practice ordering, adding, subtracting and multiplying numbers below zero. These free games cover grades 3 to 8.

Negative numbers show up in temperatures, debt and depth. They feel odd at first, because "less than zero" is hard to picture. These games use thermometers, number lines and jumps, so kids see where each answer lands.

Common Questions

How do I teach negative numbers to my child?

Start with a thermometer or a number line. Show that 0 is the middle and that numbers to the left are less. Next, add by moving right and subtract by moving left. For 3 − 5, start at 3 and move 5 left to land on −2. Use money owed as a second example.

What grade do kids learn negative numbers?

Negative numbers and absolute value are grade 6. Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers is grade 7. Many schools show negative temperatures earlier, informally.

What is a common mistake with negative numbers?

Kids think −8 is greater than −3 because 8 is greater than 3. On the number line, −8 is farther to the left, so it is less. Another mistake is 5 − (−2). Subtracting a negative moves right, so the answer is 7, not 3.

Which integer game should my child start with?

For grades 3 to 5, try Temp Trek, which uses a thermometer. For grades 5 to 6, try Absolute Value Abyss or Integer Island. For grades 6 to 7, try Integer Crossing. For grade 7, try Sign Switch Station, which shows why two negatives make a positive.

Are these integer games free?

Yes, they are free. There are no ads, no in-app purchases and no sign-up. You can play in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
