Multiplication Games for 5th Grade
Play Fraction Multiply (Grades 5–6)Grade 5 multiplication games practice multi-digit multiplication, multiplying fractions and decimals, and scaling: how multiplying changes the size of a number.
Grade 5 finishes whole-number multiplication with the standard algorithm and extends it to fractions and decimals. Kids also learn that multiplying by a fraction less than 1 makes a number smaller. The games below practice these ideas in recipes, prices, ratios and area.
20 Multiplication Games for Grade 5
- Division DashGrades 3–5A treat delivery needs sharing — work out the equal split and send the delivery.
- Area AvenueGrades 3–5Pave the avenue with square tiles — count the grid (rows × columns) to find the area.
- Array ArchitectGrades 3–5Build big multiplications with the area model — split into tens + ones, multiply each part, then add.
- Equivalent ExpressGrades 3–5Scale a fraction up — fill the new bar until it reaches the same line, so 1/2 = 2/4 = 4/8.
- Fraction of a SetGrades 3–5Split a group of counters into equal rings, then collect just the fraction the mission asks for — a fraction of a set is fair sharing.
- Fraction FeastGrades 3–5Cater the party by fractions: serve a fraction of a tray of treats, or count all the slices in a mixed number — then plate exactly that many.
- Price DetectiveGrades 3–5One line on the receipt is wrong — find it! Check each price with your magnifying glass and tap the culprit.
- Savings Goal SummitGrades 3–5Save the same amount every week and climb the money mountain to the goal flag.
- Division SquadronGrades 3–5Fire your split cannon at an alien formation: tap ÷3 and the ships snap into rows of 3, every full row explodes, and the leftover ships — the remainder — dive at you.
- Serving Size ScalerGrades 3–6Fill the bowl with the servings you really ate and scale the label to match.
- Prime ChompGrades 3–6Steer a muncher through a maze of numbers and chomp only the multiples, factors or primes the rule asks for while dodging the ghosts.
- Division Remainder RanchGrades 4–5Pen the flock into equal pens — fill the whole pens, mind the sheep left over, and decide when a leftover still needs a pen.
- Factor Pairs FarmGrades 4–5Plant crops into rows and columns until the field forms a perfect rectangle — every full rectangle is a factor pair.
- Prime FactoryGrades 4–6Dock rush! Numbers roll toward the shipping dock — SPLIT the composites into factor pairs, SHIP the primes whole. Watch out for sneaky 51s and 91s.
- Order OpsGrades 4–6Defuse the falling expression bombs! Tap the operations in PEMDAS order — each correct tap collapses the math in place before the bomb hits the line.
- Recipe RescaleGrades 4–6Double it, halve it, or cook for a crowd — grow each ingredient bar to its correctly scaled amount and keep the recipe in proportion.
- Factor DigGrades 4–6Drill number boulders apart with a factor that divides them, digging a factor tree down through the dirt until only prime gems are left.
- Ratio Table RallyGrades 5–6Keep every column of the ratio table in step — read the scaling pattern and dial in the missing equivalent-ratio number.
- Fraction MultiplyGrades 5–6Overlap two fractions on a chocolate-bar grid — shaded rows cross shaded columns and the overlap is your answer. Tops multiply, bottoms multiply.
- Speed SplitGrades 5–6Distance = speed × time — fill in the missing one, then watch the car drive the trip out hop by hop to check.
Common Questions
What multiplication do 5th graders learn?
Most US grade 5 standards cover the standard algorithm for multi-digit whole numbers and multiplying a fraction by a whole number or by another fraction. They also cover multiplying decimals to hundredths and understanding multiplication as scaling.
Why does multiplying by a fraction make a number smaller?
Multiplying by a fraction means taking that part of the number. For example, 1/2 × 8 is half of 8, which is 4. Any fraction less than 1 gives a result smaller than the starting number. A fraction greater than 1 gives a larger result.
Are these 5th grade multiplication games free?
Yes. All of them are free, with no ads, no in-app purchases and no sign-up.
