Percent Games for Kids (Grades 3–8)
Play Percent Lab (Grades 5–6)Percent games practice finding a percent of a number, discounts, tax, tips and interest. These free games cover grades 3 to 8, with most for grades 5 to 7.
Percents are used for sales, tips, taxes and interest. A percent is just a fraction out of 100. These games use grids and bars, so kids see that 10% is one tenth before they use a rule.
14 Percent Games
Easiest first. Each card shows its grade range.
- Daily Value MeterGrades 3–6Read a Nutrition Facts label and place each % Daily Value on the LOW–MIDDLE–HIGH meter.
- Triple MatchGrades 4–5Fractions, decimals and percents are three costumes for one value. Read whichever form is shown and calibrate the meter to the matching percent.
- Best Buy BazaarGrades 4–6Split each price into equal per-item shares to spot the real bargain — even when the bigger pack costs more.
- FDP TriadGrades 5–6One shaded 100-grid, three names — match the fraction, decimal, and percent that mean the same amount.
- Percent Change PortGrades 5–6A cargo dock where prices rise and fall — each 10% is one crate of the base price, so add or remove crates and set the new amount.
- Tip & Tax TillGrades 5–6Stack 10% and 1% chunks of a bill to build a tip or sales tax and read the new total off the money scale.
- Percent LabGrades 5–6Fill a 100-square grid by dragging — the fill level is the percent. Set percents, match fractions and decimals, and find the percent of a number.
- Percent ShopGrades 5–6Slice the price bar — every 10% slice shows its dollars. Knock slices off for discounts, stack them on for tax.
- Discount DepotGrades 5–6Clearance sale! Work out the sale price, the amount you save, and even the original price from the sticker.
- Credit Card ClimbGrades 6–8Build every number on a credit card statement: turn the APR into a monthly rate, set the month's interest on a 1%-block ruler, roll the balance forward, drag a payment to see how little of the minimum reaches the balance, and step months until the card is paid off.
- Paycheck PlannerGrades 6–8Drag the paycheck bar to build gross pay from hours, overtime or salary, cut out Social Security, Medicare and income-tax slices to the cent, keep the take-home pay, then work backward from a take-home goal to the hours or gross.
- Interest IslandGrade 7Dial the rate and the years and watch a principal bar grow one yearly interest block at a time to the target line, extend or cut a price bar by a markup or markdown percent, and set the percent error of an estimate against the actual bar.
- Pie Chart PlazaGrade 7Drag sector boundaries around a degree-marked circle so each slice is its percent of 360°, read a sector's percent from its angle, and turn a percent of a total into a count.
- Spinner DesignerGrade 7Drag the sector handles around a ticked rim so the spinner's sector shares match a target probability, predict counts for N spins, and rebuild a model from observed frequencies.
Common Questions
How do I teach percents to my child?
Start with a 100 grid. Shade 25 squares and say it is 25 out of 100, or 25%. Next, show that 10% is one tenth. To find 10% of 60, split 60 into 10 equal parts to get 6. Then build other percents from 10% and 1%. Use a real sale price to practice.
What grade do kids learn percents?
Percents are taught in grade 6. Many schools preview them with hundredths in grades 4 and 5. Percent change, tax, tips and simple interest are grade 7.
What is a common percent mistake?
Kids think a rise of 10% and a fall of 10% cancel out. They do not. Start at 100. Add 10% to get 110. Now take 10% of 110, which is 11, to get 99. The second percent applies to the new amount, not the first one.
Which percent game should my child start with?
For grades 4 to 5, try Triple Match. For grades 5 to 6, try Percent Lab or Discount Depot. For grades 6 to 8, try Credit Card Climb. For grade 7, try Interest Island.
Are these percent games free?
Yes. The games are free to play. There are no ads, no in-app purchases and no account. They run in the browser on phone, tablet or computer.
