Play Count-By Cove (Grades 1–2)

Common Questions

How do I teach skip counting to my child?

Start by counting real groups. Put out pairs of socks and count 2, 4, 6, 8. Next, color the skip numbers on a hundred chart so the pattern shows. Then say the count with a clap on each skip number. Last, link it to multiplication: five groups of 2 is 10.

What grade do kids learn skip counting?

Skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s is taught in grades 1 and 2. Counting by 100s is grade 2. In grade 3, skip counting leads into multiplication facts.

What is a common skip counting mistake?

Kids often lose the pattern when they start on a number that is not a multiple. Counting by 10s from 38 gives 48, 58, 68. The ones digit stays the same and the tens digit goes up by one. On a hundred chart, this is a straight line down.

Which skip counting game should my child start with?

For grades 1 to 2, try Count-By Cove or Skip Snake. Skip Trip suits grades 1 to 3. Hundred Chart Hunt is a good chart game for grades 1 to 3. For grades 2 to 4, try Times Table Tower, which links skip counting to times tables.

Are these skip counting games free?

Yes. All of the games are free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. You do not need to sign up. They run in the browser on phone, tablet or computer.
