Summer Math for Rising 7th Graders

An 8-week plan for a child starting 7th grade in the fall: about 10 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Weeks 1 to 6 review 6th grade skills. Weeks 7 and 8 are a first look at 7th grade. It uses 29 free games that run in the browser, with no ads and no sign-up.

How to use it

Each day, your child picks any game from this week's list and plays for about 10 minutes.
Then they colour one box on the calendar. The calendar has no dates, so it never runs out.
Skipping a day, or a whole week, is fine. Just pick up where you left off. There is nothing to catch up on.

Week 1: Ratios and unit rates

What it practises: Equivalent ratios, unit rates and proportions.

Week 2: Percents

What it practises: Fractions, decimals and percents, discounts, tips and tax.

Week 3: Fraction division and factors

What it practises: Dividing fractions, greatest common factor and least common multiple.

Week 4: Negative numbers

What it practises: Integers on a number line, absolute value and points in all four quadrants.

Week 5: Expressions and equations

What it practises: Writing expressions, combining like terms and one-step equations.

Week 6: Area and data

What it practises: Area of triangles and other shapes, and median, mode and range.

Week 7: Proportions and signed numbersfirst look at 7th grade

What it practises: Proportional relationships and multiplying negative numbers, both 7th-grade work.

Week 8: Two-step equations and circlesfirst look at 7th grade

What it practises: Solving two-step equations and inequalities, and the area of a circle.
